Since 1991, Reg. 4 Elevator Testing has been the premiere elevator fire safety testing company in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Our team has spent more than 20 years in the elevator industry and have been L.A.F.D. Chief's Regulation 4 Automatic Elevator Phase I and Phase II certified for over 10 years. Specializing in elevator fire safety and compliance testing, we work directly with property management, fire alarm and elevator companies to ensure their elevators will function properly in case of a fire or other emergency. We test elevators in schools, senior living facilities, hospitals, apartment and high-rise office buildings. We bring our clients the professionalism and safety they require. We understand the unique needs of building management teams and work to ensure communication is well established, that tenants needs are met and that reports are submitted in a timely manner. We report directly to fire departments, the State of California Elevator, Ride and Tramway Unit and to The Compliance Engine powered by Brycer.

Phase I Smoke Detector Activation
The purpose of Phase I automatic recall is to return elevator cars to the main floor, ensuring that occupants will not be delivered to an upper floor with fire and/or smoke conditions present. When a heat or smoke sensing device is activated, elevators will recall to the designated recall floor and will remain there with the doors open.

The elevators can also be recalled with the Phase I key. While in Phase I operation, an elevator car will automatically return to the designated recall floor without stopping, and stay there. This allows any occupants that are in the car upon Phase I activation to exit, as well as facilitate entry by fire department personnel in order to initiate Phase II operation.

In many elevators, the fire department and other rescue personnel will have a universal firefighter elevator key. This key is used to override Phase I operation to allow the firefighter to operate the elevator manually. Phase II allows firefighters to take the elevator up and down to each floor to transport equipment or occupants that need assistance on an upper floor.
